James Hopkins (1987)
One of CCRI’s best shortstops was James Hopkins. When he came to CCRI in 1969, he played for the baseball team in 1969 and 1970. In his last season, he was named team captain and MVP; he also batted .422. He was selected for Who’s Who Among Students in America’s Junior Colleges. After graduating from CCRI, he went on to play baseball at Providence College and after graduating from PC, he went to become a teacher Johnston High School, he was the head coach for Cranston East High School’s basketball team for a while and also coached baseball at Johnston High School besides teaching there.
